Aims: This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral couple therapy on communication patterns, marital commitment, and emotional adjustment in couples.
Materials and Methods: The method of this study is semi-experimental and a two-group experimental-control research design with pre-test and post-test was used. The statistical population of this study includes all couples with low communication patterns, marital commitment, and emotional adjustment in Tabriz city. The sample of this study consists of 30 couples referring to the counseling center, and a purposive method was used to select them. Then, they were randomly divided into 2 groups, one group of 15 experimental people and one group of 15 control people, and an 8-session program was implemented on the experimental groups.
Findings: The results of the analysis of covariance show that the difference between the two experimental and control groups is significant in terms of the scores of the dependent variable, and the amount of this difference is reported as follows. The results for the first hypothesis show that 97.6% of the variance in personal commitment, 98% of the variance in moral commitment, and 93.2% of structural commitment are due to the experimental conditions (P<0.001). The results of the analysis of covariance for the second hypothesis show that 63.5% of the variance in marital satisfaction, 59.3% of the variance in two-person correlation, 47.2% of two-person agreement, and 25.3% of expressing affection are due to the experimental conditions (P<0.001). Also, the results of the analysis of covariance for the third hypothesis show that 77.1% of the variance in conversational orientation and 92.7% of the variance in conformity orientation are due to the experimental conditions (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that cognitive behavioral couple therapy can improve communication patterns, marital commitment, and emotional adjustment of couples and increase marital satisfaction.
