Abstract
Introduction: This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of reducing stress based on cognitive and behavioral methods on job stress, aspects of quality of work life and fatigue components in nurses.
Method: The current study is a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design with two groups (one experimental group and one control group). The statistical population of the research includes all nurses working in Shahid Mahalati Hospital. Among the nurses working in the hospital, 30 people who meet the criteria for entering the research were selected using the available method and were randomly replaced in two experimental (15 people) and control (15 people) groups. Research tools included Chalder et al.'s chronic fatigue questionnaire (1993), occupational stress questionnaire, Walton's quality of work life questionnaire (1973) and cognitive-behavioral stress management intervention according to Anthony's model (2009). The experimental group received training during 9 sessions of 90 minutes and the control group did not receive any intervention. The obtained data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).
Findings: The results showed that cognitive-behavioral stress reduction training has an effect on reducing fatigue and its components (mental and physical) in nurses, p<0.05. Cognitive-behavioral stress reduction training has an effect on occupational stress in nurses, p<0.05. Cognitive-behavioral stress reduction training has an effect on the components of the quality of work life in nurses, p<0.05
Discussion and conclusion: Therefore, we conclude that cognitive-behavioral stress reduction training has been effective in reducing nurses' fatigue, quality of work life, and occupational stress.
