Editorial: An Analysis of Published Articles in the Thirteenth Volume of the Police Medicine Journal

This analytical editorial examines the performance, achievements, and challenges of the Journal of Police Medicine during its thirteenth volume (2024). It presents detailed statistics on submitted, accepted, and published manuscripts, highlighting a relative improvement in publication quality and key performance indicators. The editorial further analyzes broader challenges facing scientific research in Iran, including a decline in research output, limited funding, infrastructural constraints, and restrictions in international scientific collaboration, and discusses their impact on the journal.
In response to these challenges, several corrective measures are outlined, such as stricter peer-review processes, an increased emphasis on quality over quantity, mandatory ethical approval requirements, and the restructuring of the journal’s scope into five specialized domains. Additionally, the editorial provides an overview of major findings from published articles across key areas of police medicine, including psychology, emergency care, occupational injuries, emerging medical technologies, and public health. These contributions underscore the journal’s role in advancing applied knowledge to enhance the health and operational performance of military and law enforcement personnel.
Overall, the editorial emphasizes the importance of further developing this interdisciplinary field and encourages the submission of high-quality, mission-oriented research.
